Multiple humps usually mean multiple seas, for example local wind waves and longer swell.
Long term averages: separate, non-overlapping periods of the chosen length with wave height below the limit in a typical month. A 3 day calm holds three 24 h periods. Estimated from 3 hourly spell lengths and the time below the limit.
Tidal surface and seabed figures are derived from the modelled water-column mean through the power-law velocity profile of DNVGL-RP-C205 4.1.4.1 (exponent 1/7, 4.1.4.3) at this water depth; measured profiles vary. Slack-water durations refer to the column mean. Background currents are model values at real depth levels. The profile table combines the parts as in DNVGL-RP-C205 4.1.4.3 (see Methodology).
Mean conditions by 3 hour slot of the local solar day, for your selected months. Sea-breeze cycles are real near coasts and in the tropics; open ocean swell barely follows the sun, and the chart says so when that is the case here.
Named storms at tropical-storm strength or more, from best tracks since 1980. Operations commonly begin securing and demobilising when a cyclone is inside 1,000 nm, long before local seas respond, so this downtime is additional to the wave statistics above.
History conditioned on the ENSO phase of each month (NOAA's Oceanic Niño Index). This is not a forecast: check the current phase and seasonal outlook with NOAA or the Bureau of Meteorology, then read the matching column. Differences of a few percent are within sampling noise.
