# Sea State Explorer > Free web tool from Thrust Maritime giving long term wave, wind and weather window statistics for any offshore location, from WAVERYS wave reanalysis (Copernicus Marine) + ERA5 wind, 1980-2023, 3 hourly. Click a point at sea, pick months, read the percentage of time significant wave height exceeds each threshold. ## What it answers - How often significant wave height exceeds a given level at a location, by calendar month and across the year - Mean wave height by month, typical peak period and direction, wind speed (mean and top decile), extreme sea states, weather windows (separate working periods per month below a wave height limit), water depth, nearby oil and gas assets, tropical cyclone exposure - A one page PDF summary and a shareable link for every result ## The data behind it - WAVERYS wave reanalysis (Copernicus Marine) + ERA5 wind, 1980-2023, 3 hourly, 0.2 degree grid. Values are the nearest grid cell to the chosen point, never interpolated between cells; every result states the data point, the grid and its distance from the chosen point, and the PDF adds the sample count. - Attribution: Generated using E.U. Copernicus Marine Service Information: WAVERYS global wave reanalysis [1980-2023], 3 hourly significant wave height, peak period and direction. Wind statistics from the ERA5 reanalysis (Copernicus C3S) on its 0.5 degree grid (wind, direction rose, diurnal cycle and ENSO split 1980-2024). Neither the European Commission nor ECMWF nor Mercator Ocean is responsible for any use of this information. - These are long term statistics, not forecasts. They are unreliable near coasts and in sheltered or shallow water and can understate extremes. Early planning only, not for navigation, engineering design or go / no-go decisions. ## Citable pages - [Locations index](https://seastate.thrustm.com/locations/index.html): 85 named offshore working areas, each with a monthly table, the headline numbers in words, the data basis and a citation line - [Methodology](https://seastate.thrustm.com/methodology.html): how the statistics are computed - [Explorer](https://seastate.thrustm.com/): any other point at sea; the URL fragment #loc=, reproduces a result ## How to cite - Thrust Maritime, Sea State Explorer, , WAVERYS wave reanalysis (Copernicus Marine) + ERA5 wind 1980-2023, 3 hourly, accessed , - Each location page carries its own ready-made citation line. ## Not for scraping - The tile files under /data/ are bulk inputs for the interactive map, excluded from crawling in robots.txt, and not a citable surface. Automated bulk extraction is not permitted; the underlying open datasets are available from the original providers credited above. - The location pages and the methodology page are the reference surface: quote from them and link to them. ## Contact - [Thrust Maritime](https://www.thrustm.com)
